Johnny Covers 2015 Canadian GP for Sky Sports F1
After the break in hostilities last weekend, Johnny this week joins up once more with his colleagues in the Sky Sports F1 team to cover the Canadian Grand Prix from Montreal. On Sunday 7th June the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve plays host to the seventh race of the 2015 season.
The Mercedes-Benz team have again been the most competitive this year, with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg setting the pace and only Sebastian Vettel threatening their dominance in his Ferrari. A fortnight ago in Monaco, the German got lucky in the closing stages to split the Mercedes in his ‘Prancing Horse’ after Hamilton’s crew blinked under safety conditions and pitted the World Champion.
Hamilton may have fallen victim to erroneous data and an untimely slice of bad fortune in the Principality but we have seen him bounce back before. He has already converted three of this season’s poles into wins and, despite his Championship advantage over his teammate halving as a result of the Monaco debacle, leads Rosberg by 10 points as the F1 circus crosses the Atlantic.
This weekend’s famed Montreal street race is often held in cool conditions and therefore puts the onus on braking and mechanical grip. Mercedes suffered brake problems there last year and will know not to take anything for granted after the miscalculation of Monaco. Vettel will undoubtedly be hot on their heels, as will Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo who claimed his maiden race win in Canada in 2014. Lewis in particular will be keen to banish memories of last year when he failed to finish the race.
To keep up to date with Johnny’s thoughts over race weekend, be sure to stay tuned to Sky Sports F1 for all the action and analysis.
